Cherry On Top: Game Design

Game Jam Competition: 48hrs

The brief from Bournemouth AFC was to make a game aimed at the junior football team. The club is nicknamed 'the Cherries', which inspired design elements in the game. Taking into account the intended audience, research was done into how football is depicted in children's media. A concept that came up multiple times and interested us was the idea of galactic or sci-fi football teams. Inspired by that and Bournemouth AFC's focus in training, we decided to create an infinite runner as a football training routine in a sci-fi football future. The player needs to avoid obstacles and collect cherries, while keeping up their speed.

Animation Development Bible

Story Development Process

Pre-Production Portfolio for a 1 minute short with the prompt of Halloween. The story follows a young girl who tags along with her brother on Halloween. The aim of the story was to explore power and what it is to feel helpless. I wanted to show someone who stands up despite being smaller and who wants to help so much that somehow, finds the power to do it. I wanted the audience to after feel inspired to do things they didn’t think they had the power to do, and to think about who has power, why and how.

Full character designs, colour scripts, concept art, environment art and storyboards developed for the project.

Wedding Invitation Design

Development Process

Clients had specific elements and styles they wanted in the design. They wanted one of the key elements to be the bougainvillea flowers from the south of Spain, so first hand references were gathered. They also wanted the inclusion of a soft watercolour rendition of the place of the ceremony. During consultation with them they expressed wanting to showcase both the church tower and the palace wall despite them being physically far apart so in collaboration with them a design was made that combined the two in a believable and appealing composition.

Illustrated Book: Twelfth Night

Book Design Process

This project involved creating multiple illustrations of key moments in the Shakespeare play Twelfth Night. Since Shakespeare can be intimidating, I wanted to make it more approachable to teenagers, The  play deals with topics that are still relevant nowadays, like gender and sexuality, so I wanted to create illustrations that would resonate with modern audiences and spark conversations. Traditional illustrations were created after a long developmenmt process, and they were implemented as a test in a high school setting.

Sticker Design: Holy Goat

Design Process

This sketchbook spread is one of many filled with observational goat drawings. I did these to better understand their natural shapes, which I then stylised.

The Holy Goat: I am making some stickers for a friend who commissioned this character. Her description of him was that he was “cute but capable of murder”.

Clothes: Graphic Design

Pattern Making Process

This environment was created with the purpose of showing the personality of a character who is physically absent from the narrative

Since the actions are in the hands of the player, when designing the setting I had to considerhow we were going to use play to guide the player towards the information that is needed.

The floor layout was designed using the golden ratio, like a lot of other elements of the attic, to reinforce the coherent design language of the environment (and to symbolize the theme of spirals and the cyclical curse). I also considered level design to guide the player, so they inevitably reach the most important part of the attic, the painting.

Origami Table Table

Design For Manufacturing

The aim when designing this table was to make something playful that still had a simple and clean design. The main inspiration for the table was origami, as it is very geometrical and lthus lends itself to sharp design. Origami was also an inspiration because the table was going to be gifted to my motrher and she taught me to make paper cranes when I was a child. By creating a permanent origami creation, I wanted to make the chilldhood memories permanent as well, an homage to it.
